Big Tex is always a lot of fun to be around, we picked him up from a reputable breeder in Texas as a pup and never regretted it. He's a very sociable dog and likes to be the center of attention! His best trait is that he's just as willing to do work as he is to chase after a ball with the kids. Be aware: Tex is quite the escape artist, capable of scaling walls, and tends to feel uncomfortable in tight spaces. His behavior tends to largely depend on the energy levels of the people around him. If you're collected and focused, Tex will be too. If you're introducing him to a polite, calm stranger, then Tex will greet them calmly. However, if the stranger is channeling negative energy or acting shady, Tex will be on edge as well. Tex has a great prey-drive. If you aren't careful, hyper, running, screaming kids may resemble cattle and Tex loves to herd! He is very obedient and can work independently. However, "selective hearing" can occur when there's a way more appealing squirrel darting across the yard, so recall training is reinforced often. Every new socialization begins with reminding the stranger to approach him calmly. We expect Tex will mellow a bit more with age, but his energy level and drive is perfect for herding cattle as well as gives him an edge in agility.
